A partner’s obsession. A group chat. A brand.
Pappi started with two things colliding: my partner Larry’s fascination with perfume—and the money he kept spending on it—and a TikTok chat with friends in Singapore who loved luxury fragrance but hated the price tag.

I didn’t have an answer for them at first. So I went looking for one: Sephora every other day, sniffing everything I could reach, studying mixes, watching videos, flipping through books. Eventually I enrolled in a proper perfumery course and visited manufacturing hubs and suppliers for real base ingredients, until I had over 150 oils on a shelf—ready for mixing, like alchemy in a Singapore bedroom my housemates swore smelled different every time the door opened.
Some fragrances started as personal requests—friends who wanted a luxury scent without the luxury price—so I named the bottle after them. Under a Singapore-born label called VG, that idea traveled with word of mouth into Malaysia and Singapore, and the bottles kept selling.
Retrenchment hit in May 2026. It could have ended things—instead it sent me home. As a returning OFW, I qualified for financial assistance to start a business, so I made it official. My brothers were dealing with chicken skin and wanted a natural alternative, which became Savon. And the perfume line, once VG, became Pappi the moment I landed back in the Philippines—black for the dark days it took to get here, gold for what came after.
